PRE-TEEN Cartoon

  Dear Cartoonist:
Cartoon Resource is currently working on the 'Pre-Teen Scene Cartoon Book' with Chicken Soup for the Soul Enterprises, and would like to see any positive b&w cartoons that you have on the subject of pre-teen life. This is for and about an audience of readers who are ages 11 to 14, almost entirely girls. Payment is $200 USD per cartoon in the final book.
These would include cartoons that show pre-teenagers in the following settings:
-interacting with parents-trying to talk mothers into allowing them to get their ears pierced and their bellies pierced-negotiating with parents about doing higher level chores now that they are older-the pre-teens funny 'mess-ups' in doing the chores because they have no experience in things like raking, household cleanup, watching after younger siblings
-babysitting, the challenges of being a babysitter in dealing with the younger children, and the parent's of the younger children, and the things that can happen in someone else's house that a pre-teen is not prepared to cope with
-interacting with teachers and fellow students at school-taking tests, getting help on difficult subjects
-being naive and awkward-not knowing how to deal with boys yet because they have no experience-not knowing much about the outside world because they have been living under 'helicopter' parents who have tended to hover and be protective
-using the computer for chatting and surfing and web blogging and research for school
-going to boy band concerts, being crazy about boy bands and posters and other memorabalia of boy bands
-hanging out in cliques and groups of girls at the mall, where they spend hours looking at and trying on makeup and clothes, being dropped off and picked up by parents
-plucking eyebrows, using makeup for the first time-the pain of plucking, the humor in not knowing how to apply makeup properly yet, so that mistakes are made with spotting and clumping, and not shaving your legs the right way
-taking part in extra curricular activities at school, such as band, sports, and clubs
-pursuing hobbies, such as gaming, collecting
-pursuing x-sports such as skateboarding, snowboarding, rollerblading, and other teen sports
-getting fake tattoos, talking key chains or other cool key chains that you put on your backpack, fortune telling figure 8 balls, iron on patches that you put on backpacks
-using cell phones, being on the phone as much as possible, having your parents give you a phone with a pre-paid limit
-putting up with family gatherings
Please send cartoons for consideration in jpeg files, 300 dpi, no larger than 5"x5" to:andrew@cartoonresource.com
The deadline for cartoons is August 20, 2004.
