It is one of the oldest marks of the world. In 1756, the Portuguese Minister, Marquês de Pombal, established as demarcated region of Port Wine the so called “Alto Douro”, which turned this wine to be the first in the world to be demarcated and ruled. Since then the Port Wine had become essential al over the world when celebrating special moments. Several writers and members of governments had exalted its special qualities. The well known association of good wine to humour and the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the royal decision justify this Port Wine Special Award under the scope of the 8th PORTOCARTOON. The rules of this Special Prize are similar to the PortoCartoon rules, as follows: 1-Each artist/journalist can send an unlimited number of works concerning the theme, but only five at the maximum will be considered. 2-The works measurements should not exceed 42x30 cm (DIN A3). 3-Works must be originals and any kind of graphical technique will be accepted, including digital artwork if they are signed and if they are print number one. 4-The works should present on the reverse the following information: name and address of the author, title, theme section and year, and the author’s CV in Portuguese or English (publications, exhibitions, prizes…) should be sent. 5-The works should arrive at the Portuguese Printing Press Museum (address: Estrada Nacional 108, nº 206, 4300-316 Porto /Portugal) at the latest on 12th May 2006. 6-The participation in PortoCartoon means automatically that the author is waving copyrights of his works in any kind of support (including web pages), concerning the production and diffusion of the Festival. 7-The awards, including a trophy and a diploma will be the following: 1st Prize: Special package of Port Wine and a surprise award. 2nd Prize: Special package of Port Wine 3rd Prize: Special package of Port Wine 8-The Jury can also give Honourable Mentions. 9-The Jury will have an odd number of judges and their decision will be final with no subjection to any kind of appeal or reclamation. President to the Jury: Georges Wolinski. 10-The awarded works will become property of the Portuguese Printing Press Museum and will make part of the International Cartoon Gallery. The others will be sent to the artists, if formally requested, after its public exhibition during the PortoCartoon and possible exhibition in other cities and countries. 11-In case of using non-awarded works in other cases except PortoCartoon-World Festival exhibition or its promotion, copyright payment will be made to the artists whenever it takes place to. 12-All the artists whose works will be selected for the exhibition will receive a catalogue. 13-The prize will be delivered in a public ceremony. |
